Can You Have it All?

Can You Have it All?

Last week, my beautiful boss babe and I attended a women’s luncheon for the local Chamber of Commerce. First, I was SHOCKED at the number of women that attended…it sold out! I wan’t expecting much and I was pleasantly surprised!

During the luncheon, the question was posed, “Can you have it all?” By show of raised hands, 99% thought yes. Only one person at our table thought no…and I won’t mention names;-) My personal immediate reaction was YES! I mean, why not?! We’re superwomen, moms, amazingly motivated individuals. Then reality set in. Man, having it all is tough!

Can I be honest for a moment? I’ve recently dug myself into a big fat mom hole and I’m just now seeing the light. You see, even before this luncheon, I was thinking yes! And we overcommitted our family to the point of exhaustion. Like…big time overkill, big time melt downs…#notdoingitagain.

So do I still think you can have it all? 100%. But guess what? “ALL” is different for every individual. And my all is very different from yours! I now understand that my all isn’t literally all. You see, you have to decide what that magic equation is for you and your family. I thought all was saying yes to everything. Turns out, all is saying yes to what makes us happy and more fulfilled and saying no to things that do not bring us that kind of joy. * I think I just went a little Marie Kondo on my personal life and I’m not mad at it! *

All to me is:

  • Having experiences together as a family

  • Finding work/life balance (still working on this one everyday)

  • Working towards our family dreams and goals together

  • Happy and healthy children that feel seen, heard and loved every single day

  • Making time for self

  • Persevering on my health journey, no matter the obstacles

  • Working tirelessly behind the scenes to build a small little empire for my family. One that we can enjoy together…

What ISN’T all to me:

  • Being involved in EVERY sport

  • Doing ALL the activities. We tried. It drove us mad. We’ll try to not repeat our mistakes.

  • Putting others before family

  • Doubting my abilities (as wife, mom, homemaker, employee, friend, human)

So why bore you with all this? Because it’s a significant part of my recent process and it needs to be documented. You CAN have it all, but ‘all’ will be different in each stage of life. I firmly believe it will evolve and look completely different in a few years. But for now, this is it for us here at the Château…our little slice of ALL in a world of dreams and expectations. It might not seem much to some, but its everything to me. And I really DO have it all…Bird (the hubs), the Baby Birds, the fixer - more to come on that later -, the job, and just enough extra to keep us on our toes and fulfill us in ways that we’re still learning about!

Yet, here I am…interested in YOUR thoughts. Do you think you can have it all? Or better yet, what is YOUR all? Comment, email, carrier pigeon…let me KNOW! Maybe I’ll do a follow up soon with all the responses! Until next time, friends, wishing you good vibes, peace and love beyond measure. Thanks for tuning in…
